The Rest of 2014 – Nebraska night tornado and South Dakota Tornado   Leave a comment

Here are some video captures from a more than likely night tornado on a cell SW of York, NE on June 14th. The storm did have a tornado warning on it:

Here are a couple of captures of a tornado that developed on a cell in South Dakota. The storm originally had been cruising SE for a while with a pretty good updraft after a while started getting intense and produced a tornado that unfortunately did some damage to a small town. It got a way from me so I only was able to film the last half of it. It seemed to have dissipated then a nice solid rope tornado appeared for a while kicking up dirt in a field:

As far as the storm season went I’ve chased the most in one Spring. I’ve missed some good stuff but all in all it was good to see some powerful storms.

NE Nebraska June 17th – Long lasting tornado producing supercell   Leave a comment

After waiting in a gas station parking lot in sweltering heat and humidity. The warm front and outflow boundary finally produced. After missing the initial tornadoes due to repositioning issues. I photographed the amazing supercell before dark. As darkness fell I filmed a few tornadoes. There was a large one that was only visible when backlit lightning flashed and another trunk type tornado closer to the edge. I will post video captures later. Here’s a couple of the amazing structure of the powerful storm:

The afterthought to this event is I witnessed a very powerful storm that could almost be an analog to the Grand Island tornadic event of 80. I believe there was destruction of farmland but not injuries or fatalities.
I will also post some captures of two other tornadic events including another night tornado and the South Dakota tornado that occurred on the 18th.
Here’s a couple of video captures of the tornadoes, I can make out 2:

Storm Visions into June – SE Colorado Tornado   Leave a comment

Since my last post I have chased several storm days. I will post some of those photos later. On June 6th I finally found the tornado producer in SE Colorado near Trinidad. I was a little late for the first tornado but I did get a glimpse of it from a distance. Soon after even from the distance I was a wall cloud began to develop and was pretty obvious the storm was still very tornadic. After seeing a funnel come down for a bit I kept trying to get closer to the storm. Finally, I knew a tornado was imminent and found a road to pull off on. There was only one road and not a lot of places to pull over and film the storm. A tornado did develop and I got to see a fairly impressive tornado for at least 5 minutes after that it did become fairly rain-wrapped yet did persist for another 10 minutes. Pretty amazing day. Colorado saw multiple tornadoes on the 6th and 8th of June. I’m lucky to have witnessed one.
Here are some video captures from that event:
